Volunteer Desription – Your Duties and our Expectations
How the Cape Point Surf Yoga Camp Operates
We are a very small business that takes maximum 6 and sometimes 8 guests at any one time. When we just started this business in Feb 2018, Steffi and I did absolutely everything ourselves. Now we are super stoked to get some help so that we can enjoy a bit more time for ourselves.
A day at the surf camp...
Normally we have an 8am breakfast and leave to go surfing at 9am or just before. We get to the spot and do a 1.5hour surf lesson. If the weather is good and we don't have check ins or check outs that day then we will stay at the beach and eat our packed lunch. Sometimes we go to a cool place or sightseeing spot for lunch between surfs. But if some people are coming or leaving that day we normallycome back to the surf camp for lunch to fetch them or drop people off. Then it's time for the 2nd session, another 1.5hours, then back to the surf camp. It is normally just after 4pm at this point. The guests then have yoga at about 5:30pm or 6pm then it's dinner at around 7pm. People are normally so tired after this that they go to bet quite soon!! And that's a normal day here!
Why we will be stoked to have you help out :)
So the specific places where Steffi and I spend a lot of time is where we would like you to come in and free us up. One is the days in the water I spend coaching surf. We will ask you to work 3 to 4 days per week, depending on the guest situation. Also, very important are the evenings. We are big on video analysis which is the gopro footage from the water in the day. It's actually a very funny part of it and makes for good laughs during dinner. Also, taking guests for a little drive here and there to the awesome viewing spots and the Wine Market once per week.
For the surfing – We have one local surf coach who works 3 to 5 times per week. However, we often have people on very different levels. So sometimes we have 3 beginners and 2 intermediates. This is where you would come in. We would have to use 2 surf coaches on these days and split the group. So the full time coach would take one group, and you the other group. Most of the time you guys can go to the same spot, but sometimes you will have to go to 2 different spots in different vehicles. Then when the full time coach has his days off it would be you working and if we have guests on different levels then you and me would work together.
Get in touch for a more detailed job description. You will also have your own scooter to go free surf all the spots near by.
